Donald Mowat

Donald Mowat is one of North America’s leading makeup artists, and has an astounding 60 feature films and 25 projects for television to his credit. He has won numerous awards including a 1992 Primetime Emmy award, a 1998 Special Achievement Gemini award and a 2006 Gemini Award. Donald has also received four Hollywood Makeup Artists Guild award nominations (2000 – Three Kings, 2003 – 8 Mile, 2004 – The Human Stain) and winning in 2014 with the film Prisoners and earned three Saturn Award nominations for his work on Repo Men, Skyfall and winning for Prisoners in 2014. Donald received the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for his service to the Film Industry and various charities.

Donald is an active member of IATSE locals in New York, Toronto and Los Angeles, and was elected to two terms on IATSE Local 873’s Makeup Department. He served three terms on the Board of Directors for the Actors’ Fund of Canada (2008 – 2014), a charity that serves individuals working in the entertainment industry in times of crisis. He was elected to the National Board of Directors / the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television, representing the Art Department for two terms (2007 – 2011).  His rationale and exceptional leadership also led to the creation of the annual Genie Award for Makeup (now called the Canadian Screen Awards). A long term member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), having served 9 years on the executive committee and 3 years on the nominating committee since his invitation to voting membership in 1999. For BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) LA office, he volunteers on the membership committee and is a mentor in the BAFTA LA Outreach Program at Washington Prep High School.
