When are classes held?

All classes run from Monday to Friday, 9:30 AM–4:30 PM. Students are allotted one hour for lunch. The college is not open on weekends.

How large are class sizes?

CMU accepts approximately 14 students per program. This allows our instructors to provide aspiring artists with the individual attention they require. Through months of working collaboratively, fellow classmates frequently become very tight-knit. It is not uncommon for them to hire each other for job opportunities post-graduation.

Does CMU recognize holidays?

CMU observes all designated statutory holidays in the province of Ontario. We are also closed for two weeks in late December/early January. CMU does not provide summer breaks.

When are your application deadlines?

CMU offers start dates throughout the year. Student applications are reviewed when they are submitted. There are no specific deadlines, but it is typically recommended that you submit your application 3–6 months in advance of your desired start date. Depending on the time of year, however, prospective students may submit their applications later. International students should apply as early as possible because there may be additional processing time required to get a study permit.

What is your graduate success rate?

CMU is proud of our countless alumni who have gained employment in every area of the international makeup industry. Our graduates have worked in fashion, print advertising, bridal, television, independent and Hollywood film, theatre, for special makeup effects studios, and more. They are represented by major fashion agencies such as Judy Inc and The Plutino Group, are active members of the film unions IATSE and NABET, and have gone on to start their own businesses. Read some of their success stories here.

What are CMU’s admission requirements?

Our admission requirements can be found here. We strongly encourage prospective students to take a tour of CMU’s facilities before submitting an application. This will allow you to discuss your goals with our Admissions Department, ask questions, and find out which program is best for you. You do not need to submit a portfolio with your application. Students will build their portfolio during CMU’s makeup courses that are 6 weeks or longer.

Is financial assistance available?

Canadian students (permanent residents, citizens, or landed immigrants, or protected persons) who have been accepted and are enrolled in any of CMU’s diploma programs are eligible for government grants and student loans including the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP). We highly recommend that you apply for provincial assistance well before your start date.

Canadian students from outside of Ontario may be eligible for financial support from funding programs in their home province. Private bank loans and student lines of credit are available at most major financial institutions for Canadian and international students. Nunavut, the Northwest Territories, and Quebec operate their own student assistance plans.

What are the tuition fees for international students?

Tuition fees for international students are slightly higher due to the administrative functions required by the Ministry of Education when processing registrations and fees. The applicable fees for each program can be found on the respective program pages.

Does CMU provide housing for students?

The college does not provide student apartments or dormitories. However, we do offer accommodation information upon request. Student Services will be happy to assist you with your housing-related questions as a new resident of Toronto.

What is the cost of living in Toronto?

Toronto is a safe yet bustling metropolitan city. Prior to beginning their program, students should prepare a monthly budget that realistically identifies expenses such as rent, food, utilities, phone, cable television, Internet, transportation, and entertainment. Additional costs may include moving expenses, trips home, and items that you may wish to purchase during your studies.

What is in CMU’s student kit?

Purchasing a student kit is a part of CMU’s program expenses. Our kit contains all of the products that you will need to successfully complete your program. They are provided to students on their first day.

The CMU student kit is full of high-quality makeup brands and tools. Kits are continuously updated to reflect the most current trends and products used in the industry. They will often last well beyond your time at the college and you will use them in your professional career.

Students will also receive a copy of CMU’s exclusive textbook.
