Life in Toronto – What to expect

CMU College of Makeup Art & Design is located in the heart of Toronto at The Old Fire Hall, a historically significant building situated near the best cultural and urban amenities the city has to offer.  Toronto, the largest city in Canada, is one of the most creative and diverse cities in the world with more than 80 cultures and over 100 languages represented.  The city is connected by a series of overlapping, safe and unique neighbourhoods that contribute to the global flavour and style.  Beautiful parks, waterfront, Toronto Island, shopping, galleries, museums and incredible places to eat are all within walking or biking distance or a quick trip on the transit accessible throughout the city.  Toronto is a celebrated centre for the arts.  It has a theatre scene rivalled only by London and New York, and is a major film and television production location.  The city is host year-round to international festivals of film, culture and music, including the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).

Toronto’s climate is distinctive due to its four separate seasons. Winter falls from December to mid-April. During that time you can expect to see regular snowfall. Summer in Toronto consists of long stretches of warm weather. Temperatures generally range from 25-35 degrees Celsius. Spring is characterized by regular precipitation and mild weather, running from April to early June. Autumn’s beautiful weather runs from September to November.

Toronto boasts the third largest public transit system in North America. The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) runs an underground subway system as well as numerous buses and streetcars. There are other smaller transit systems that run outside the city including Go Transit and Viva.

There are many websites to look for accommodations. You can find a list of helpful resources HERE. Feel free to check out our Student Community Page on Facebook to connect with other students looking for roommates.
